ABOUT Jerry W. Chandler
Dr. Jerry Chandler is one of Birmingham’s most experienced and beloved General and Interventional Cardiologists. For over 30 years Dr. Chandler has provided high quality and compassionate care to generations of patients requiring treatment of the heart and peripheral blood vessels.
After completing undergraduate degrees in music and history at Samford University, and a graduate degree in history from Florida State University, Dr. Chandler began his working career in business, in Birmingham, Alabama. Dr. Chandler’s long held love of the sciences and the art of medicine led him to seek new direction as an applicant to the School of Medicine at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where he was awarded his doctorate in medicine. After completing his residency in internal medicine at Caraway Methodist Medical Center, Dr. Chandler returned to UAB for his fellowship in cardiology, where he extended his training by being accepted into the first class of formally trained interventional cardiology fellows at UAB.
Dr. Chandler joined CVA in 1986. During his association with CVA, his focus has been on interventional cardiology, but he enjoys the practice of general cardiology as well. He is especially interested in preventive cardiology, as it applies personally to every patient.
In addition to his direct patient care, Dr. Chandler has taken professional leadership roles as hospital Chief of Staff and President of CVA for 11 years. Dr. Chandler also served on the Governor’s Alabama Task Force on Cardiovascular Care in 2000 and has been voted as one of the Best Doctor’s in America since 2003.
Dr. Chandler is board certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Diseases, and Interventional Cardiology. He is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology and a member of the American Heart Association. Dr. Chandler currently sees patients at the Colonnade office of CVA and performs procedures at both Brookwood Baptist Medical Center and Grandview Medical Center.
